Robert Nathan (Nate) Henderson

Robert Nathan (Nate) Henderson

Robert Nathan (Nate) Henderson, 43, of Lexington, tragically passed away April 18, 2018, from a heart attack while traveling on business in Kansas. His donation to the Gift of Life program represents his lifelong consideration for others.

He was born March 19, 1975, in Ashland, the son of Vada Lou Fyfe Henderson and the late Leslie A. Henderson, Sr.

Formerly of Olive Hill, Nate graduated with honors from West Carter High School in 1993 where he also served as class president. In 1999 he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Morehead State University.

Nathan began his career in the railroad industry with CSX Transportation, eventually holding management positions with that company and later executive positions with the RJ Corman Railroad Group. In December 2017, he was named Executive Vice President with Midwest Pacific Rail Net and Logistics. He also became a partner in Henderson Rail Services, which he co-founded, and the managing partner and COO for North American Rail Partners and the CEO for AN Trans. Active in professional organizations, Nathan served several years on the NRC Board.

Nathan was actively involved with his family and community. He adored his children and eagerly attended their school functions. He coached his son's t-ball, football and basketball teams and was a supportive "Cheer Dad" who helped his own girls as well as others on the team who needed support. He knew cheerleading is a sport! Nate was a golfer, UK fan, and Notre Dame fan-often referring to himself as Irish. Nathan loved cooking and barbecuing and he and Amy enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends.

In addition to his mother, Nathan is survived by his wife, Amy Waggoner Henderson, whom he wed October 19, 2002 ; his daughters, Macey Brooke and Abigail Riece and his son, Zachary Armstrong, all residing in Lexington; his sisters, Leslyn (Johnnie) Spaulding of Mount Sterling; Pam (Jimmy) Adkins and Vanessa (Mike) Lowe of Olive Hill; his half-brothers, Greg (Vickey) Henderson of Olive Hill and Brent (Sandi) Henderson of Indianapolis, IN; his step-brother, Jeff Tackett of Washington, DC.; special nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; four half-brothers, Gregory E. Duncan, L. A. Henderson, Jr., Marty Henderson, and J.B. Henderson; and one step-brother, Doug Tackett.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Johnnie Spaulding, Jimmy Adkins, and Gerald Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in the Olive Hill Memorial Gardens.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
