Mr. William "Dave" Evans, age 66, of Grayson, passed away Monday morning, June 26, 2017.

He was born July 24, 1950, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late William Wesley and Bessie Reynolds Evans.

Dave was of the Baptist faith and he attended the Bowen Chapel Church in Olive Hill. He started his bluegrass music career in 1968, with Earl Taylor and the Stoney Mountain Boys. Then, in 1973, he joined Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers before starting his own bluegrass band in 1978, known as Dave Evans and The River Bend. Dave is also a former member of The Boys from Indiana, Lillie Mae and the Dixie Gospelaires and Melvin Goins. Dave was also fascinated by earlier bluegrass performers, such as Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, and Jimmy Martin. He created his own style of bluegrass music. Dave began writing and singing his own songs, including, "One Loaf of Bread", "Highway 52", and "Be proud of the Grey in Your Hair." He was a devoted father. Dave passed his love for bluegrass music on to his sons, and he taught them his style of bluegrass music.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy and Marjorie Evans of Waverly, Ohio, and Todd and Beth Evans of Morehead; seven grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet Ruth and Dennis Ketchum of Arizona; the mother of his children, Patty Evans Bird of Waverly, Ohio; and a very special friend, Sue Conley of London. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017, at Poppy Mountain, US 60 East in Morehead, with Pastor Thomas Holt and Reverend Frank Newsome officiating. Interment will follow in the Fred Newsome Sr. Cemetery in Olive Hill.
