Virginia's Story

Virginia Ruth Gresham, 89, of Abingdon, VA, formerly of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016 at the English Meadows Nursing Home. Ruth was born March 28, 1927 in Clinton, IN a daughter of the late William A. and Lillie M. Johnson Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Gresham; brothers, Charles F. Smith, Oakley Smith and Raymond Smith; and her sisters, Pauline Smith Pannell, Mary Smith Rose, Ellen Smith Nalley and Thelma Smith Fryer.
Ruth was retired as the Dean of Women at the Kentucky Christian University in Grayson. She attended the Manhattan Christian College in Kansas, was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ in Grayson and was active in Women's Ministry. Her survivors include: two sons, Michael R. (Paula) Gresham of Liberty Township, OH and Timothy W. (Susan) Gresham of Abington, VA; two daughters, Barbara L. (Michael) Bundy of Oak Ridge, TN and Janelda R. (Ron) Mitchell of Versailles; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the English Meadows staff; special thanks to Oneta Bollinger, who was more than a friend; Angie Widener, special caregiver; and the Caris Hospice for their loving care of Ruth.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Donald Damron officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening, Dec. 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 13 after 9:00 a.m. until service time at Malone Funeral Home.
