Mrs. Shirley Ann Sams Burton Mowrey, age 78, of Olive Hill, passed away Thursday Morning, Feb. 23, 2017, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Chillicothe, Ohio, a daughter of the late Bud and Emma Vandemark Sams.
Shirley was of the Baptist faith and loved playing bingo and cards with her sisters and brothers. She enjoyed decorating for each holiday and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Burton, who died in 1992; her second husband, Howard Mowrey, who died in 2015; two brothers, Bob Sams and Bub Sams; and two sisters, Betty Bond and Mary Black.
Shirley is survived by three sons, Ronnie Burton, Larry Burton, and Rick Burton (Gena), all of Olive Hill; three stepsons; five daughters, Connie Barker (John), Janie Stevens and Debbie Kiser (Danny), all of Olive Hill, Cathy Frazier (Ed) of Ashland, Linda Howell of Perry, Florida; one stepdaughter; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three brothers, Ed Sams (Joyce), Chuck Sams (Cindy) and Darrell Sams (Midge), all of Chillicothe, Ohio. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Grayson, with Brother Jimmy Barker and Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter Memory Gardens in Grayson.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, and after 9 a.m. on Monday at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 49 McCoy Road, Grayson, Kentucky 41143.
Shirley's family will serve as pallbearers.
