Ruie's Story

Ruie Faye Bledsoe Barker, "Granny Faye," age 93, passed away August 26, 2017 at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

She was born March 27, 1924 in Carter County, to the late Thomas and Laura Bledsoe.

Granny Faye was a local private business owner, as well as a local delivery person for the Ashland Daily Independent for many years. Among her favorite pastimes were spending time and talking with friends and family, as well as listening to music and traveling. Anyone who knew Granny Faye knows that one of her favorite hobbies was catching up with people on the telephone. Granny Faye was loved by all who met her and she never forgot a face or name.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Barker; one granddaughter, Sue Bryant; two great granddaughters, Grace Ann Bryant and Brittany Thompson; one son-in-law, Bill Tackett; and two sisters, Dorothy Hanshaw and Opal Sammons.

Granny Faye is survived by six children, Della Withrow and her husband Earl, Sandra Wilson and her husband Nick, Diane Collins and her husband J.C., James Barker and Samantha Smith, Joan Barker, and Jerry Barker and wife Kimberly all of Carter County; 15 grandchildren, Drema Wells and her husband Lindsay of Olive Hill, Lyda Miller and Jeff Dixon of Grahn, Renea Hollingsworth and husband Keith of Olive Hill, Darren Bryant and wife Pam of Grayson, Tony Bryant and Heather, Maurice Waugh and Ashley Carper all of Carter County, Travis Wilson of Georgia, Jesse Wilson, Raymond Bryant and wife Carmen all of Carter County, Heather Hedge and husband Joe, Bryan Holbrook, Rhonda Gerahart and husband Rick all of Olive Hill, Candace Barker and Michael Hardin of Myrtle Beach, SC, Brooke Barker, April Tackett and Aaron Tackett, all of Carter County; 18 great grandchildren, Jessica and David Craig, Frankie Miller & Melissa Lalonde, Lauren Baker & husband Brad, Ashley Dixon, PJ Hollingsworth and wife Brittany, Morgan Hollingsworth, Brandon Bryant and wife Nicole, Mark Bryant, Christian Gerahart, Henderson Blake Gerahart, Jordan Bryant, James Bryant, Jacob Bryant, Chelsea Barker, Hallie Barker, Hannah Barker, and Axel James Hardin; 10 great-great grandchildren, Dawson, Baylee, Connor, Waylon, Emmaline Ruie, Zoey, Hendrix, Remi, Emma, Miles; four special children, Bryalee, Laynee, Kolmen, and Jacob; and four very close friends, Myrtle Sammons, Christina Bailey, Nora Barker, and Sue Cane. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky with Brother Randy Binion officiating. Burial will follow in the Hanshaw Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017, and all day Wednesday, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West US Highway 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
