Ricky W. Porter, age 54, went to be with his Lord on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at his home in Grayson. He was born on Nov. 29, 1962 in Grayson, to the Rosella Porter and the late James J. Porter. He was a 1981 graduate of East Carter High School. He went on to work in the strip mines for 18 years and then became a boilermaker for Local 667 Charleston, WV.
Rick belonged to the Christian faith and was a member of Victory Christian Church in Webbville. He also had the honor of being a member of the Masonic Lodge 626 in Willard.
Rick enjoyed hobbies such as fishing and watching NASCAR, but nothing appealed more to him than dirt track racing. He was in regular attendance at local dirt track speedways.
He was preceded in death by his father, James J. Porter, his paternal grandmother, Pearl Kitchen Bentley and his maternal grandparents, Roy H. Porter and Carrie Lou Porter.
He is survived by his mother, Rosella Porter of Grayson; two brothers, Rodney (Stacy) Porter and Timothy Porter, both of Grayson, and one sister, Regina (Doug) Porter of Sandy Hook; two nieces, Chasity (Tommy) Roe and Megan Porter, and one nephew, Aden Porter; and two great-nephews, Brody Porter and Carson Roe, all of Grayson; and an abundance of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 at 2:00p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home, David Webb, minister. Burial will follow in East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 15, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home.
