Phyllis Stumbo, 83, died unexpectedly on Tues, Sept 12, after hitting her head in a fall. Services will be in Tipton, IA; visitation on Sat from 4-7 pm and funeral on Sun at 2 pm.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Stumbo; children, Mitchell Stumbo, Lorelei Falsetti, Circe Stumbo and Andy Stumbo; sister, Martha Sue Jarvis; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Among surviving cousins are Tommy Bailey and Gloria Bunting of Grahn. Aunt Mae Allison still resides in Columbus, OH.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Opal (Bailey) Ernst.
Phyllis was born and raised in and around Olive Hill. She married Hugh in 1955. She earned a B.A. from Morehead State University in KY, a M.A. from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. A Registered Dietitian, she worked as a Research Scientist for 29 years at the University of Iowa Clinical Research Center and was known nationally and internationally for her work on nutrient databases. Of all her roles, however, she perhaps enjoyed being grandmother best of all.
