Phyllis Joan Barker Johnston
Mrs. Phyllis Barker Johnston, age 79, of Olive Hill, went to be with the Lord, Saturday afternoon, September 7, 2019 at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
She was born August 21, 1940, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Dollie Stevens Barker.
Phyllis attended Pleasant Hill Church and was a homemaker and caregiver. She enjoyed gardening, canning, working in her flowerbeds, crocheting, sewing, rag rugs, yard selling, baking cookies, making candy trays at Christmas and spending time around the "conference table" (kitchen table) with her family and friends and an endless supply of coffee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles Edward Johnston, and one brother, Emerson Barker.
Phyllis is survived by two sons, Dwayne Johnston (Julie) of Witchita, Kansas, and Rick Johnston (Debbie) of Woodstock, Georgia; one daughter, Jeannie DeLong (Albert) of Ravenswood, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Maegan Johnston, Kellie Freeman, Cody DeLong and Jason Syers; four great grandchildren, Preslie Freeman, Paitlyn Freeman, Priya Freeman, and Paxton Freeman; two brothers, Ronnie Barker (Linda) of Olive Hill, and Roger Barker (Jeanette) of Kenova, West Virginia; and two sisters, Joy Roe of Grayson, and Sue Johnson (Dude) of Sandy Hook. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Jimmy Barker officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Grahn.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2019 and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Dwayne Johnston, Rick Johnston, Roger Barker, Dude Johnson, Albert DeLong and Cody DeLong will serve as pallbearers.
