Phyllis Jean Crawford Cook


Mrs. Phyllis Jean Crawford Cook, age 87, of Olive Hill, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2019, at Trinity Station in Flatwoods.

She was born April 3, 1932, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Catherine James Crawford.

Phyllis was a special education teacher at Olive Hill Elementary. After retirement she would volunteer to help students that needed extra help in their education. She enjoyed walks with her husband, James, attending family reunions and spending time with her dogs and cats. Phyllis will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Levi Cook; one son, James Gould Cook; one daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Smedley Cook; two brothers, Hubert Crawford and Paul Crawford; seven sisters, Ruby Plummer, Ruth Maddox Reid, Opal Crawford, Blanche Faris, Catherine Faris, Aileen Vogler and Lois Silz.

Phyllis is survived by one grandson, Michael Shane Cook; one granddaughter, Jatonda Ousley (John); four great grandchildren, Courtney Bond, Tayton Ousley, Kaiden Adkins and Brayden Adkins; one brother, Harold Crawford; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers of Trinity Station. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2019, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Larry Joe Ruley officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2019, and after 9 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

John Ousley, Shane Cook, Wes Holland, Larry Mynhier, Tayton Ousley and Michael Smedley will serve as pallbearers.
