Mr. Paul Lloyd Stapleton, age 81, of Worthington, passed away Monday afternoon, October 30, 2017, at his residence.
He was born March 25, 1936, in Carter County, a son of the late Jessie Franklin and Effie Mae Bowling Stapleton.
Paul was a Christian and a member of Mt. Olive Regular Baptist Church in Greenup County. He was retired as a carman welder with CSX after 28 years of service, and he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl Stapleton, Hershel Stapleton, Russell Stapleton, and Junior Stapleton, and five sisters, Virginia Bowling, Ruth Bowling, Loretta Bowling, Ruby Bowling and Bertha Lewis.
Paul is survived by his wife of 61 years, Etta Lorene Knipp Stapleton; four sons and spouses, David and Patricia Stapleton of Worthington, Wesley and Yvonne Stapleton of Greenup, Martin and Rena Stapleton of Flatwoods, and Timothy and Kim Stapleton of Worthington; four daughters and spouses, Carol Salyers and Barb and Bill Clare all of Raceland, Becky and Paul Fisher and Melissa Baier, all of Worthington; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of extended family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Grayson, with Brother Edmond Hay and Brother Doyle Woodward officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast with committal rites by Brother Terry Bryant and Brother Juniour Ruggles officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Kenova West Virginia American Legion Post #93.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017, and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Paul's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
