Omer Lee Watkins, 80, of Morehead, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 5, 2016, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born June 11, 1936, in Morgan County, a son of the late James Shelvie and Laura Alice Barnette Watkins.
Omer attended Upper Trough Camp and worked for Packs Construction until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, racing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Michael Lee Watkins, Ray Watkins, and Stevie Watkins; one granddaughter, Tessa Dawn Greenhill; and four brothers, Sam Watkins, Tom Watkins, Ollie Watkins, and Arnold Watkins.
Omer is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Watkins; three sons, Omer Lee Watkins, Jr. of Winchester, Justin Watkins and Calvin Watkins, both of Morehead; six daughters, Vicki Briles and Shelia Hamilton, both of Winchester, Shirley Earlene Hall of Soldier, Joyce Arlene Boggs and Janice JoAnn James, both of Olive Hill, and Kimberly Sue Fengins of Morehead; 25 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Oney of Middletown, OH, and Lettie Hammbaker of Sacramento, California. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Roy Lands officiating. Burial followed in the Watkins Family Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends visited from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 and until the service hour on Sunday at Globe Funeral Chapel.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
