Neymon Darrell Campbell, Sr., 81, of Grayson went to be with his Lord Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center in Ohio. Darrell was born Dec. 24, 1935 in Laing, WV a son of the late Woodrow Wilson and June Carroll Campbell. Including his parents Darrell was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Campbell, Paul Campbell, Sr. and Danny Campbell.
Darrell served his country honorably in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. After returning home Darrell went to work for General Refractories, after a lay off; he enlisted in the US Navy. Darrell served for 4 years and was honorably discharged. Returning Home in 1960 he returned to work and started his ministry to the families in the Carter County area. Darrell was a founding member of the Hitchins Christ Church and Straight Creek Church; and preached at many churches in the area over his long ministerial career.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rhonda Jean Tackett Campbell; two sons, Neymon Darrell (Joetta) Campbell, Jr. of NC and Joseph Campbell of Hitchins; a daughter, Kimberly Hope (Joe) Scott of TX; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joy Kennedy of Hitchins and Debbie (Lovell) Carper of Grayson; two brothers, Gene (Glenna) Campbell and Terry (Georgia) Campbell both of Hitchins; and a host of family and friends who all mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be 11 am Friday Feb. 24, 2017 at the Hitchins Second Freewill Baptist Church with Lenny Campbell, Joe Mullins, Ron Johnson and Tom Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East with full military honors. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Thursday at Malone Funeral Home and after 9am Friday at the Church.
