Mary Nelms Taylor Shears passed away on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Mary was born Jan. 20, 1943 in Santa Monica, California to the late Sidney Taylor and Mildred Stovall Taylor. Mary was a graduate of Prichard High School. She attended Morehead State College and the Ashland School of Business. Mary was a secretary for over 40 years at the central office of the Carter County Board of Education in Grayson. She was a member of the Bagby Memorial Methodist Church of Grayson. After retirement, she loved watching her grandsons participate in sports. She loved going to the movies with the girls, eating popcorn and watching TV. Mary was her sister's (Bee) co-pilot while delivering meals for Grayson's Meals on Wheels. Mary leaves behind her husband, Donald Shears, of 50 years; a daughter, Nikki, of Denver, Colorado; a son, Wesley of New Albany, Indiana. She leaves two grandsons, Cowen Shears who is a freshman at Butler University and Hank Shears of New Albany. Mary had two sisters, Martha (Harold) Lemaster and Bee (Tony) Pope both of Grayson. She leaves a brother, Sidney Watts Taylor, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws will sadly miss her.
Funeral will be Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Musial Pearson officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Burial Park. Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Bagby Memorial Methodist Church or to the Grayson Meals on Wheels.
