Martha Magdalene Waggoner Burke, 87, of Grayson went to be with her Lord Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at the Elliott Nursing and Rehab Center in Sandy Hook. Magdalene was born April 16, 1929 in Hitchins, a daughter of the late George and Audie Wells Waggoner. Including her parents Magdalene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, William Everett Burke.
Magdalene was baptized in 1949 and was a life-long member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ; where she often volunteered and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a cheerleader for Hitchins High School class of 1947. She loved being a mother, taking care of her precious children, and enjoyed their visits while sitting in her rocking chair. She enjoyed cooking, raising her flowers, sewing and making clothing. She also worked several years as a teacher's aide at Star and Prichard Elementary Schools.
Magdalene is survived by a daughter, Saundra and Roger Gillum; a son, Bill and Sherry Burke; and a sister, Nadine Davis all of Grayson. She leaves several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services will be 12 noon Friday Dec. 16 at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Donald Damron and Delmar Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Thursday and after 9am Friday until the service hour. Condolences may be sent to the Burke Family at www.malonefuneralhome.com
Magdalene's Family would like to thank the residents and staff of Elliott County Nursing and Rehab for their kindness, compassion, and friendship.
