Mr. John William Littleton, age 81, of Olive Hill, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born Jan. 22, 1935, in Carter County, a son of the late Elmer and Sarah Carroll Littleton.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1963, active and inactive duty. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Kirk Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. John worked until his retirement as a Blacksmith for Chessie System Railroad. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed working on his farm and raising a garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ella Mae Burton.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Glenna Jean Sparks Littleton; one son, John Dale Littleton of Olive Hill; one grandson, John Dalton Littleton of Sandy Hook; one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Linda Littleton of Olive Hill; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pat and Carl Valintine of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Merl and Perry Bowers of Cleveland, Ohio, and Betty Roseberry of Grayson. He also leaves many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother James Russell Schmidt officiating. Burial will follow in the Littleton Cemetery in Olive Hill, with full military honors presented by the Olive Hill American Legion Post #138.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, and until the service hour on Saturday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
