James Ervin Shoemaker, 93, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017. He was born to Will and Eva (Beckner) Shoemaker in Charleston, West Virginia on June 12, 1924.
James was a member of First Wesleyan Church. He thoroughly enjoyed going to church, camping, and watching TV. James served in the United States Army in WWII and received a Purple Heart.
James is survived by his sons, Chuck (Carol) Shoemaker of Mansfield, and James (Sue) Randall of Cincinnati, OH; his daughter, Malina Thacker of Indiana; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Mauritz of Mansfield, and Faye Perry of Shelby; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (Hilger) Shoemaker; his parents; and eight brothers, Archie, Robert, Teddy, Russell, Bill, Eugene, Elza, and Lonnie.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Rd. Ontario, Ohio. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Keith Carlisle, will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm, also at the Ontario Home. Burial will take place at Mansfield Memorial Park with Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad presenting Military honors. Contributions may be made to First Wesleyan Church.
