Mr. James E. "Bubby" Patton, age 87, of Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning Nov. 5, 2016, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Carter County, a son of the late Melvin and Opal Stephens Patton.
Bubby proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a faithful member of the Garvin Ridge Wesleyan Church, where he served as a past Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. He enjoyed wood working, going to church, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert "Bobby" Patton, and one sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Arthur Justice.
Bubby is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Tackett Patton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Brenda Patton of Olive Hill, and Mitchell and Sharon Patton of Morehead; one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Eugene Prichard of Grayson; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jim Gustat of Morris, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Charles Tackett of Olive Hill; and one sister-in-law, Garnet Mays of Oakwood, Ohio. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Allen Underwood and Pastor J.C. Bond officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, with full military honors presented by the Olive Hill American Legion post #138.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016 and until the service hour on Wednesday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill.
Kim Gilliam, Mark Gilliam, Robby Binion, Roger Michael Patton, Donnie Duncan, Steve Tackett, Randy Tackett, and Arville Duncan Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Charles Waugh Sr. will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
