Mr. James Mitchell Mahoney, age 83, of Olive Hill, passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 29, 2016 at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
He was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Williston, North Dakota, a son of the late James and Ida Ingwaldson Mahoney.
James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a member of the First Christian Church in Mansfield, Ohio, for over 50 years. He enjoyed flying, fishing, looking at old cars, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Betty Darlene Rose Mahoney; three half-brothers, Donald Sorenson, Ben Sorenson, and Egon Sorenson; and one half-sister, Lydia Johnson.
James is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Cathleen of Bradenton, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Eugene Perry of Olive Hill; five grandchildren, Tracy Tippie, Meagan Mahoney, Kristen Ginn, Kaitlyn Mahoney, and Amy Sapp; and three great grandchildren, Landon Tippie, Caden Smith, and Jameson Ryll. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Bud Burnett officiating. A private military graveside service will be held in the Logan Cemetery at a later date.
