J.C. "Shorty" Rogers, 86 of Willard went to be with his Lord on Tuesday July 12, 2016 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. J.C. was born Sept. 10, 1929 in Carter County a son of the late Oscar and Anna Mullins Rogers. Including his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife on July 28, 2014, Mary I. Gollihue Rogers; also preceded by eleven brothers, Virgil, Herbert, Homer, Arvil, Chester, Vernon, Edgar, Leonard, Linville, Billy Gene and Donald Rogers; and two sisters, Maxine Messer and Joyce Wheeler.
J.C. was the last surviving charter member of the EK Community Church, a master carpenter having worked for Raymond Burton Enterprises for over 40 years; played guitar and sang in multiple churches in the area for fifty plus years. J.C. was known for his great and contagious sense of humor and always having a Pepsi and a piece of candy.
J.C. is survived by two sons, James Ron (Karen) Rogers of Flatwoods, Eddie J. (Karen) Rogers of Ashland; one daughter Karen Annette (John) Clevenger of Grayson; three grandchildren, Zachary (Heather) Rogers, Priscilla (Brandon) Raynard and Brianna Clevenger and her fiancé Michael Jordan; one great-grandson Tanner Raynard; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday July 17th at Malone Funeral Home with Delmar Rogers and Leonard Gollihue officiating. Burial will be in the Rogers-Messer Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home and after 12 noon Sunday. Condolences may be sent to the Rogers Family at www.malonefuneralhome.com.
Pallbearers will be B.J. Raynard, Michael Jordan, Josh Rogers, J.C. Perkins, Paul Rogers, Dub Rogers and Johnny Gollihue.
