Elmer Hartman, 97, of Grayson, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was born July 16, 1919 in Grayson, a son of the late David Franklin and Martha (Yates) Hartman.
Elmer worked for CSX for 27 years and retired from the railroad. He proudly served our country in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the Everman Creek Missionary Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bethel Ruth Hartman, a daughter, Edith Coburn, a brother, Frank Hartman, two sisters, Aliene O'Neal and Daisy Swinford, a granddaughter, Crystal Coburn Tygart, and a half- brother, Lee Forest.
He is survived by two sons, Elmer Richard (Debra) Hartman of Grayson and Gary David (Nancy) Hartman of Westwood; two grandchildren, Steven (Ivory) and David Adam Hartman and a three great-grandchild, Kelesy R. Hartman, Rayven (Ivy) Murphy, and Brock Murphy; a great-great granddaughter, Luna Elizabeth Murphy.
Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Bud Burnett, minister. Burial followed at the East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
