Mr. Earl Sparks, age 91, of Chapmanville, West Virginia, formerly of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at his daughter's residence.
He was born Aug. 12, 1925, in Slagle, West Virginia, a son of the late Joel Winfield Sparks and Dora Boggs Sparks.
Earl was a World War II Navy veteran and a retired coal miner. He was a member of Globe Christian Holiness Church of Olive Hill and enjoyed yard work, going to church and traveling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Faye Johnson Sparks; four brothers, Willard, Dallas, Kenneth, Glen and Herbert; and two sisters, Gracie and Jessie.
Earl is survived by four children and their spouses, Larry and Lynda Sparks of East Liverpool, Ohio, Anna and Paul Chambers of Williamstown, West Virginia, Phillip and Barbara Sparks of Charleston, West Virginia and Sherry and David Gore of Chapmanville, West Virginia; six grandchildren and their spouses, JoAnna and Shawn Holbert, Angie and Mike Swope, Mary and Jerry Newman, Phillip Aaron Sparks, Jason and Karla Sparks and David Earl and Joetta Gore; 13 great grandchildren, Molly, Lily, Shawn, Maddie, Dalton, Katelyn, Lydia, Rebecca Joy, Erin, Luke, Lauren, Brock, and Tyler; four sisters-in-law and their spouses, Loretta and Joe Stemple, Phyllis and Howard Arnett, Darlene and W.J. Cox and Janice and Bob Buffington; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel with his grandson, Pastor Jason Sparks and Pastor David Rayburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, with services following at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
