Mr. Donald Richard Tackett, age 78, of Olive Hill, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Carter County, a son of the late John Abner and Ina May Bradley Tackett.
Donald was of the Protestant faith and was retired from the Kentucky Highway Department. He was a member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629, the Olive Hill American Legion Post #138, and was a Kentucky Colonel. Donald was an avid U.K. Basketball fan and enjoyed playing cards, listening to bluegrass music, attending bluegrass festivals and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers, Kenneth Tackett, Hubert Tackett, Clayton Eugene Tackett, Emil Tackett, Frank Tackett, Ronnie Tackett, Bill Tackett, Norman Tackett, and Gary Tackett; one sister, Myrtle Allen; and one grandson, Bryce Tackett.
Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda Gay Adkins Tackett; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Joann Tackett, Mark and Rhonda Tackett, and Brent and Ronda Tackett, all of Olive Hill; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Gary Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
Masonic services will be conducted Friday at 7 p.m. by the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge # 629.
Doug Tackett, Jeff Allen, Terry Tackett, Donnie Stevens, Mitch Adkins, Rick Porter, Tanner Tackett, and Travis Tackett will serve as pallbearers. Dallas Nolen, David Brown, Gary Brown and Tim Burton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
