Mr. Dan C. Mays, age 71, of Olive Hill, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 13, 2017, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born September 13, 1945, in Carter County, a son of the late James Russell and Ottie Jackson Mays.
Dan was of the Christian faith and worked as a carpenter. He enjoyed watching westerns, playing the lottery, playing poker, fishing and was an avid Braves fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Salem; four brothers, James Russell Mays II, Frank Mays, Stoney Mays, and James Mays; and four sisters, Barbara Carpenter, Faye Butler, Lilly Mansfield, and Iona Mead.
Dan is survived by three sons, Daniel James Mays of Morehead, Rodney Morrison Mays (Chasity) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Danny Ray Mays of Prestonsburg; three daughters, Star Eva Carroll (James) of Morehead, Jody Mays of Olive Hill, and Mary Ellen Mays of Mt. Sterling; 26 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill, with Brother Roger Greenhill officiating. Burial will follow in the Watson Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017, and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home, 145 Gearhart Street, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
Rodney Mays, Jimmy Mays, Danny Mays, Woody Mays, Wayne Mays, and Alex Mays will serve as pallbearers.
