Mr. Carl W. "Bean" Mullins, age 97, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday afternoon, October 2, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 14, 1920, in Carter County, a son of the late Arthur and Hester Dehart Mullins.
Bean was a WWII Veteran and proudly served his country in the United States Navy Seabees. He was a member of the Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church in Morehead, and he retired from Massie Coal Company as a superintendent in Pikeville. Bean enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors, reading his bible and working to provide for his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Essie Mae Carroll Mullins; one son, Carl David "Crash" Mullins; two great grandchildren, Chandler Johnson and Brady Johnson; three brothers, Kayo Mullins, John Mullins, and Mark Mullins; two sisters, Retha Kiser and Georgia Mullins; one son-in-law, Jan Morris; and one daughter-in-law, Kathleen Mullins.
Bean is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Retha Carolyn Mullins of Olive Hill, and Linda Morris Henderson (Rex) of Morehead; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Patti) Morgan, Michelle (Ryan) Burton, Caroline Rogers Logan, Carl Eric "Bubba" (Amanda) Johnson and Justin (Amanda) Mullins; and nine great grandchildren, Joslyn Burton, Delaney Burton, Gunner Johnson, Maddy Johnson, Kenley Johnson, Bentley Johnson, Cord Logan, Sailor Mullins, and Landry Morgan; and one daughter-in-law, Gina Mullins. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017, at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home with his grandson, Jeremy Morgan and Pastor Harley Sexton Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, with full military honors presented by the Olive Hill American Legion Post #138.
Visitation iss from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017, and after 9 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Jeremy Morgan, Eric "Bubba" Johnson, Justin Mullins, Gunner Johnson, Ryan Burton, Van Stevens and Darren Carroll will serve as pallbearers. Rex Henderson, Roger Layne and Roscoe Rogers will serve as honorary pallbearers
