Billy Gurvin Sparks, 79, of Olive Hill, died Saturday Dec. 10, 2016 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was born July 16, 1937 in Grahn, a son of the late Minard Dewell and Kate Jessee Sparks.
Billy retired from the KY State Highway Department and was a member of the Bowen Chapel Church; he loved his church family. He was an avid hunter, loved his dogs and horses. He enjoyed all outdoor activities especially riding his Kawasaki "Mule" and his 1937 Plymouth.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Burl Sparks and Gale Sparks and two sisters, Ella Cook Prewitt and Bernice Wise.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline Bradley Sparks; a brother, James Curtis (Mary Sue) of Brookville, OH; a sister, Marcella (Harold) Prater of Centerville, OH; a sister-in-law, Ernestine Sparks of Waynesville, OH; six children, Ember, Chase, Tanner, Taylor, Addie, and Raven that called him "Papaw Billy"; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016 at 12:00 (Noon) at the Bowen Chapel Church in Olive Hill, Dale Richmond, minister. He will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson.
