Mr. Arthur Ray Oney, age 69, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 28, 2016, at his residence.
He was born October 24, 1947, in Carter County, a son of the late Willie Malcolm Oney and Odell Cline Oney Sparks.
Arthur proudly served his country in the United State Navy and retired from the Navy after 22 years of service. In his later years, he worked for Qualls Oil in Olive Hill. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Victor Sparks and William Oscar Sparks.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 38 years, Deborah Miller Oney; three sons, Timothy Ray Oney of Ashland, Raymond Oney of Paris, and Arthur Ray Oney Jr. (Kimberly) of Olive Hill; two daughters, Jacqueline Sue Holbrook (Pat) of Olive Hill, and Melanie Dawn Oney of Ashland; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, General Sherman Sparks (Nancy) and Roger Oney, all of Grayson; and two sisters, Alline Tackett of Pleasant City, Ohio, and Pauline Kelley (Vernon) of Hitchins. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Delmar Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in the Osborne Cemetery in Olive Hill, with full military honors presented by the Olive Hill American Legion Post #138.
Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, and until the service hour on Saturday at Globe Funeral Chapel, 17277 West Highway US 60, Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
