Mr. Anthony "Tony" Mays, age 65, of Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening, November 2, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was born January 11, 1952, in Grayson, a son of the late Emel Edward and Maxine Abbott Mays.
Tony was a member of the First Christian Church of Olive Hill where he served as a deacon and he worked until his retirement as a land surveyor. He enjoyed going to church, watching U.K. Basketball, and spending time with his family and friends, especially with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death one daughter, Lori Ann Mays Knipp, and two brothers, Emel Eugene Mays and Douglas "Doug" Mays.
Tony is survived by his wife of 3 years, Janice Tabor Mays; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy Beth Mays Thornsberry and Tim of Olive Hill; one stepson, Craig Blankenship of Huntington, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Alex Knipp, Jacey Knipp, Matthew Knipp, Amber Thornsberry and Dalton Thornsberry; five step grandchildren; three brothers, Howard "Boo" Mays of Olive Hill, Gregory Mays of Ironton, Ohio, and Jeffrey Mays of Mansfield, Ohio; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willard and Maudie Boyce of Olive Hill. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 5, 2017, at the First Christian Church of Olive Hill in Olive Hill, with Elder Chris Barker and Elder John Tierney officiating. Burial followed in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017, and after 12 noon on Sunday at the church.
Alex Knipp, Matthew Knipp, Dalton Thornsberry, Tristan Mitchell, Ethan Brown, and Jeffrey Mays served as pallbearers. Johnny Barker, Kelvin Barker, George Bill Jordan, Lowell Knipp served as honorary pallbearers.
Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, cared for all arrangements for Mr. Anthony "Tony" Mays.
